«Hallo, Andersdenkende»: Aktivistin Seibt, 19.

Naomis Welt

https://www.weltwoche.ch/ausgaben/2020-8/ausland/naomis-welt-die-weltwoche-ausgabe-8-2020.html

Naomi Seibt: “Climate change alarmism, at its very core, is a despicably anti-human ideology... “I think this entire climate mainstream narrative is not about science at all.”

Meet Naomi Seibt – The 19-Year-Old, Blond Antidote To Greta Thunberg

GRETA: “I want you to panic. “I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act.”

NAOMI: Ich bin Naomi Seibt. Und nicht gegen Greta. Ich bin für die Meinungsfreiheit. I don’t want you to panic. I want you to think. (...) “Rage and panic belong to our opponents.”

... Some quotations

The Daily Dot:
"... It’s harder to come out as a conservative than as a sexual minority. She opines that people who come out as gay “would probably receive massive amounts of support... Coming out can still be a very tough thing to do. However, I’m not talking about coming out as gay, but coming out as non-leftist, coming out as conservative, or libertarian even.”

Seibt has also railed against feminism, arguing that measures intended to foster gender equality are “true sexism,” and that advancement is entirely merit-based in today’s society. She believes that feminism—the belief in gender equality—is detrimental to women:

“Feminism in the 21st century is attacking the confidence of young women.”

The Washington Post
“She’s a fantastic voice for free markets and for climate realism,” said James Taylor, director of the Arthur B. Robinson Center for Climate and Environmental Policy at the Heartland Institute, an influential libertarian think tank in suburban Chicago that has the ear of the Trump administration.

“I want you to panic,” she [Greta]told attendees at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last year. “I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act.”

Naomi, for her part, argues that these predictions of dire consequences are exaggerated. In a video posted on Heartland’s website, she gazes into the camera and says, “I don’t want you to panic. I want you to think.”

Naomi said her political activism was sparked a few years ago when she began asking questions in school about Germany’s liberal immigration policies. She said the backlash from teachers and other students hardened her skepticism about mainstream German thinking. More recently, she said that watching young people joining weekly “Fridays For Future” protests inspired by Greta helped spur her opposition to climate change activism.

“I get chills when I see those young people, especially at Fridays for Future. They are screaming and shouting and they’re generally terrified,” she said in an interview.
InfoWars
“What the climate skeptics, or climate realists say, makes a lot of sense to me, scientifically.”

“And that’s how I became really passionate about the topic.”

“I think this entire climate mainstream narrative is not about science at all. Because I would say that more than 90% of the people, especially the young people, who go to those Fridays for Future protests, they have no clue what they’re actually talking about. They don’t know anything about the science behind it. All they know is, this is the mainstream, and they are actually scared many of them I think that the planet is going to end like 12 years from now. And so, this is not about science. This is about politics. This is about controlling us.”

MY OWN OPINION: VERY(!) WISE AND BRAVE GIRL!

GRETINISM. Episode 3: "Monetisation", or "Thunberg patents own name"

https://www.wionews.com/world/greta-thunberg-files-application-to-patent-her-name-and-campaign-fridays-for-future-277459

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has applied to register her name and her global campaign ''Fridays For Future'' which she had founded in 2018.

The 17-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday to express her annoyance and to inform her followers of the future course of action of her campaign.

"My name and the #FridaysForFuture movement are constantly being used for commercial purposes without any consent whatsoever," she wrote in a post she shared her Instagram account.

She complained that "there are still people who are trying to impersonate me or falsely claim that they 'represent' me in order to communicate with high profile people, politicians, media, artists etc."

There had also been incidents of marketing, selling products and collection of money "in my and the movement's name," she wrote.

"That is why I've applied to register my name, Fridays For Future as trademarks. This action is to protect the movement and its activities."

This move would allow legitimate action against persons or companies trying to hijack her name or the movement's which are not in line with its values.

"I assure you, I and the other school strikers have absolutely no interests in trademarks. But unfortunately, it needs to be done," she said on the social network.

She insisted that the foundation would be "completely transparent," for instance, with regard to the taxes it has to pay.

The great news for Greta and her young friends: "Green-piss" included with neo-Nazis on UK counter-terror list

A counter-terrorism police document distributed to medical staff and teachers as part of anti-extremism briefings included Greenpeace, Peta and other non-violent groups as well as neo-Nazis, the Guardian has learned.

The guide, produced by Counter Terrorism Policing, is used across England as part of training for Prevent, the anti-radicalisation scheme designed to catch those at risk of committing terrorist violence.

Last week, police said documents uncovered by the Guardian that listed the environmental protest group Extinction Rebellion (XR) alongside far-right extremists and jihadists were a local error.

But the list of groups viewed as a potential concern contained in the new 24-page document includes Extinction Rebellion. It also includes Greenpeace – among whose supporters are Dame Judi Dench, Stephen Fry, Gillian Anderson and Joanna Lumley – and the ocean pollution campaigners Sea Shepherd, whose supporters include Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. Also included is Stop the Badger Cull, which is backed by Sir Brian May, the Queen guitarist.

(...) The last page of an accompanying visual guide seen by the Guardian advises people to report “any concerns identified via this document” using an online portal for reporting suspicious activity that is operated by Counter Terrorism Policing under the slogan: “Action counters terrorism”.

She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.

So nice to see!

... By the way. it's not a joke!
I think that this annoyed girl has a very happy future. For example:
- UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador;
- The leader of the Green party;
- The head of European Youth Parliament;
- The head of European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety;
- UN Goodwill Ambassadors (as Angelina Jolie, happy mom of 30 :) Vietnamese kids);
- Nobel Peace Prize;
- ...
- PROFIT!

Microsoft Office 365 banned from German schools over privacy concerns

In a bombshell decision, the Data Protection Authority (DPA) of the German Land of Hesse has ruled that schools are banned from using Microsoft’s cloud office product “Office 365”. According to the decision, the platform’s standard settings expose personal information about school pupils and teachers “to possible access by US officials” and are thus incompatible with European and local data protection laws.

The ruling is the result of several years of domestic debate about whether German schools and other state institutions should be using Microsoft software at all, reports ZDNet. In 2018, investigators in the Netherlands discovered that the data collected by Microsoft “could include anything from standard software diagnostics to user content from inside applications, such as sentences from documents and email subject lines.” All of which contravenes the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and potentially local laws for the protection of personal data of underaged pupils.

While Microsoft’s “Office 365” is not a new product, the company has recently changed its offer in Germany: Until now, it provided customers with a special German cloud version hosted on servers run by German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Telekom served as a kind of infrastructure trustee, putting customer data outside the legal reach of US law enforcement and intelligence agencies. In 2018, however, Microsoft announced that in 2019 this special arrangement will be terminated and German customers are offered to move to Microsoft’s standard cloud offer in the EU.

Microsoft insists that nothing changes for customers because the new “Office 365” servers are also located in the EU or even in Germany. However, legal developments in the US have put the Hesse DPA on high alert: The newly enacted “US Cloud Act” empowers US government agencies to request access to customer data from all US-based companies no matter where their servers are located.

To make things even worse, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recently expressed concerns about telemetry data that the Windows 10 operating system collects and transmits to Microsoft. So even if German (or European) schools stopped using the company’s cloud office, its ubiquitous Windows operating system also leaks data to the US with no control or stopping it for users.

School pupils are usually not able to give consent, Max Schrems from EDRi member noyb told ZDNet. “And if data is sent to Microsoft in the US, it is subject to US mass surveillance laws. This is illegal under EU law.” Even if that was legal, says the Hesse DPA, schools and other public institutions in Germany have a “particular responsibility for what they do with personal data, and how transparent they are about that.”

It seems that fulfilling those responsibilities hasn’t been possible when using Microsoft Office 365. In a next step, it is crucial that European DPAs discuss those findings within the European Data Protection Board to come to an EU-wide rule that protects children’s personal data from unregulated access by US agencies. Otherwise European schools would be well-advised to switch to privacy-friendly alternatives such as Linux, LibreOffice, and Nextcloud.

School enforces dress code on parents too

The ban forbids all people visiting the school from wearing revealing and sagging clothing, as well as pyjamas, hair rollers, satin caps, and bonnets. Also on the list are shower caps, short dresses, lingerie, and other clothing the schools have deemed inappropriate for the educational space.
I wonder who ever tried to enter their school wearing pyjamas or in lingerie only. I mean, this would be really strange to encounter at a school...
"To prepare our children and let them know daily, the appropriate attire they are supposed to wear when entering a building, going somewhere, applying for a job, or visiting someone outside of the home setting, I am going to enforce these guidelines on a daily basis at Madison High School. We are preparing our children for the future and it begins here," Principal Outley Brown said in a letter to the Parents and all guests of the school.

Expert Says Don’t Teach Kids to Code

I agree with the article. The OECD dude clearly has no clue what learning to code is about. It teaches you analytical and algorithmic thinking, problem solving, decomposition skills and so much more that will be useful even if you never write a line of code again afterwards.

The only thing in the article that I slightly disagree with is this bit:
But the real value is to understand when and why you would want, say, a linked list vs a hash table vs a binary tree data structure.
That's still waaaaay too low-level a skill to be generally useful. This might be useful later on for a couple of kids that become programmers. But as I said above, I believe that the skills you learn from programming go way beyond that on a much more abstract level (but learned on the very concrete level of coding) and benefit you even in the unlikely event that you never touch a computer again.

He makes up for it though with this very true bit:
This isn’t a new problem. Gifted math teachers or gifted math students build intuition about the universe by understanding what math means. Dull teachers and students just learn rote formulae and apply patterns to problems without real understanding.
I'm going to digress a bit here, but it's not just the "dull" part that's the problem in my opinion. The way courses and exams are set up today, we are actually selecting for formula grinding skills instead of true understanding.

When I was a RA/TA at university, I discussed this a couple of times with my Prof, and I stand by my opinion: grinding specific problem types and solution steps into students in lab courses, and then testing those exact same problems in the exam with the exact same steps, just with slightly different parameters, is not a proper way to test understanding, nor a particularly good way of teaching.

Instead, you should test for understanding by requiring them to apply the taught principles to new problems (and train that in the lab couses of course). This doesn't have to be a wildly different kind of problems, but at least enough that they have to think a little about which of the learned algorithms would apply and how. Problem with that: it requires more effort on both sides, grades will likely suffer, students grumble, and teachers get flak from students, possibly parents, and definitely their deans.
