as impressive as Pileated Woodpeckers can be, this small flycatcher's behavior is far more acrobatic and entertaining. This one paused on a perch at the top of the canopy before making a long sweeping dive over the garden to collect, on the wing, some hapless insect... only to resume his perch.
Get off mah lawn!
i've had this strain of feisty iris for 35 years 0.0
here's some info on keeping them alive. In the Southern Hemisphere, the ideal planting time is not July-September but somewhere around Summer-Autumn. Slackarse gardening suggests some time when there's rain, but not a lot (they dont like water terribly much, but need warmth and rain to set roots). I've found that they do grow if you just drop them on the groundand forget where you put them too. Extreme #slackarse-gardening.

Where do babies come from?
We all know that storks bring babies. Except in France, where they grow in cabbages. Hence storks fly to France, collect babies from cabbage patches and deliver them.
However, there are no storks in North America. So where do American babies come from? The answer is: pelicans! They are native to North America and naturally suited for the job. Which means that storks need to pick up babies in France and hand them over to their North American delivery partners somewhere mid-way on the North-Atlantic great circle route: Greenland!
Hence the strategic importance of Greenland...
