Why Greenpeace is dropping huge boulders into the sea - BBC News https://www.bbc.com/news/av/science-environment-56201231

The waters are already protected, but since fishermen don't care Greenpeace is dropping boulders to stop the practice of bottom trawling.

Maybe find something else to eat. Just a thought.

Warming Himalayas cause deadly #algal #bloom in Arabian Sea

As snow and ice melt in the #Himalayan mountains, winter winds that blow down are becoming warmer and more humid. This alters the currents of the #ArabianSea and distribution of #nutrients – and in turn the marine #food chain, with #fish
struggling in the new conditions.

Use of neonicotinoids on rice paddies linked to fishery collapse in Japan

A team of researchers with members affiliated with several institutions in Japan has found what they describe as compelling evidence of two fisheries collapsing due to use of neonicotinoid pesticides by nearby rice farmers. In their paper published in the journal Science, the team describes their study of fishery water quality data over two decades and what they learned from it. Olaf Jensen with Rutgers University has published a Perspective piece discussing the work by the team in the same journal issue.

your daddy was a sha-ark, your daddy was a oop.

i dont think the black colouration is a result of too much nitrogen in the water (fish piss - politer people say "waste due to overstocking" but it's fish piss),but melanin. Even though there are lots of little bebbies who survived the winter, the puddle is far from overstocked but i'll pop some hydro lettuce on top just in case. MmmMmm fishpiss flavoured lettuce, there's nothing like it :)

Fascinating. Some fish eggs can survive going through a bird's digestive system.
Killifish manage to endure a variety of environments. The wee freshwater fish survive in isolated desert pools, lakes made by flood water, even seasonal ponds that are little more than puddles.

One place scientists didn’t expect to find them was in swan poop. But an international team of researchers reported last week in the journal Ecology that whole killifish eggs make it through the digestive tract of water birds intact, with one egg in the study even hatching more than a month after its transit through a swan. The findings suggest that bird feces may be capable of carrying fish eggs far from their original locations.
[...]
The researchers are planning a similar experiment now that uses eggs from carp, which hatch much faster than killifish. As killifish and carp can be invasive species outside of their normal range, understanding how they spread can help in containment.

Si vous avez un bassin, des poissons, et que vous aimez bricoler... :)

If you have a pond, some fish, and if you like to work on something... ;)

I "collected" these pics a long time ago. And I have no plan for anything, but the principle is quite simple to understand. You need a solid and transparent volume (vase, aquarium...). The base must be submerged and raised several decimetres from the bottom of the basin, so that fish can sneak into the container. The water must completely fill the vase or aquarium.

Last Friday, May 24th, we had our pond opened. The aquascape company came out and cleaned it and tweaked it and now it looks beautiful. You can see the fish now, too.
