"By 2019, #coal accounted for 24 percent of electricity generation in the US, down from 48 percent in 2010 (US Energy Information Administration 2020); 5 percent of coal-fired power capacity was retired (Hodge 2020); at least 11 coal companies had declared bankruptcy (Moritz-Rabson 2019); and the Energy Information Administration (EIA) projected that generation from coal would decline an additional 13 percent in 2020 (Hodge 2020)."

https://www.ende-gelaende.org/press-release/pressemitteilung-vom-26-6-2020/

Berlin / Erkelenz, 8:00 Uhr.

On this day, 18 June 1984, the battle of Orgreave took place when striking miners faced off against thousands of police as they attempted to blockade the Orgreave coking plant in England. The police showed the lengths they would go to to break the strike, with violent attacks, mass arrests and deliberate but fortunately unsuccessful attempts to fabricate evidence and frame miners. And the BBC reversed footage of miners defending themselves from police attacks to try to pretend police were attacked first.

Coal miners were on strike against a pit closure plan by the Conservative government.

So in Germany they tore down some church for #coal of all things, an unprofitable and terribly climate-damaging form of energy.
Unbelievable.

There is a #coalexitlist by #urgewald, means another database which could be very interesting for our #fediverse project.
Sadly we need to register to use this database, means it's not #opendata as we wish.
The search engine #ecosia uses this #database to show us a small icon that shows websites that support #coal companies.
They also use other organizations to label websites, but there are less information available on these databases.

#EndCoal! - GP activists stopped today the insane import of #coal to Poland. Poland imports 26% of coal used by the country and a substantial part of it goes through the port of Gdansk, where we are now on board of @gp_warrior. We have #ClimateEmergency now. #UnitedForClimate!

#Fracking’s #methane leaks drive #ClimateHeat

His research suggests that methane from biological sources (cows,bogs..) has less carbon-13 relative to carbon-12 (denoting the weight of the carbon atom at the centre of the methane molecule) than methane from conventional natural gas and other #FossilFuels such as #coal.

... the process of forcing chemicals and water into rock to release gas – the process known as fracking – causes the increased methane emissions.
